The classic misunderstanding is from Spirit of the Radio: "The words of the profits are written on the studio wall." Not "prophets", as most people think.
That confusion is actually due to an intentional allusion to Simon & Garnfinkle's "the words of the prophets are written on subway halls" etc.
So, in one sense, message received.
Yes, it was a deliberate play on words -- one I was ignorant of until a few years after getting hooked on the band.
